Trader Joe’s Skincare Review

I have tried a few of the Trader Joe’s skin and body care items over the years and have found several that are my tried and true items. I love their hand soaps, shaving lotion, and Coconut Body Butter! I wanted to explore more of their skincare items and thought I would share my experience with all of you in case you have been curious too.

If you prefer to watch and listen, I posted a video above, but for those who prefer to read…read on 🙂

In full disclosure…I am 43 and have sensitive, combination skin. This may help you in deciding which products will work best for you. I have been doing a “double cleanse” for several years and I really love this technique to thoroughly remove all of my makeup and get my pores really clean.

I start by using the Coconut and Argan Facial Cleaning Oil ($6.99). I also really love the Burt’s Bees Cleansing Oil (15.99). At first, I couldn’t imagine putting an oil on my face to clean it, but the results have been amazing. My pores are much cleaner and my skin is soft and moisturized. I use one pump and work it into my skin making circular motions, I focus on my eyes and lips (especially if wearing a liquid lipstick). After a few minutes, I use a make-up remover wipe to remove the make-up and oil.

My favorite wipes are the Micellar Cleanser and Makeup Remover Wipes ($3.99). These are hand down the thickest, most gentle wipes for the price. They get the job done without stripping your skin and won’t leave you red or feeling like you just put gasoline on your face – don’t you hate that feeling?

After cleansing, I start my skin treatments. You should always start your skin treatments with serums. These type of treatments are lighter and meant to absorb deep into your skin. I have been using the Estee Lauder Night Repair Serum for about a year. I love this serum, but I felt like it worked better when I first started using it. I have been wanting to try a hyaluronic acid serum ($8.99) for awhile and when I saw this one at TJ’s I had to try it. The price can’t be beat! I feel that this serum alone has been making a huge difference in my skin. The main difference is that my skin is less oily, but yet moisturized and glowing.

I have been using facial oils for several years and find them to be a good addition for aging skin. Oils can be used in place of moisturizer or in conjunction. I use mine after my treatments and before my moisturizer. The TJ’s Rose Oil ($5.99) was intriguing to me because I have read about all the amazing benefits of Rose hip oil and it’s anti-aging properties. I am all about natural anti-aging products, so sign me up! This oil doesn’t have an overwhelming rose scent, which I like and it’s doesn’t irritate your eye area. I have even started adding a few drops to my foundation in the morning and my skin is glowing, but not greasy all day…all day! I can’t believe it, before using this and the hyaluronic serum, my t zone would get greasy and require touch-ups throughout the day, not anymore! The secret hear is that your skin produces oil to correct it’s own moisture imbalance, so give it what it wants and your skin will thank you.

I have been purchasing the 100% Jojoba Oil ($7.99) for several years now. This is a very versatile oil that can be used on face, body, or hair. You can use this in place of the facial cleansing oil to remove make-up, add it to your body lotion (my favorite use so far), or add a drop or two to your palms and run through the ends of your hair.

I had high hopes for the Blueberry & Acai Facial Scrub ($5.99), but I didn’t find that it lives up to my expectations. It smells amazing, just like a blueberry smoothie, however it doesn’t really exfoliate much of anything and feels almost like you are just putting crushed up blueberries on your face. It doesn’t suds, which is fine, but it just doesn’t seem to do much of anything for me.

The Grapefruit Ginger Sugar Scrub ($6.99) is another new item that I picked up on my recent trip to Trader Joe’s. While this smells good, it’s not the best sugar scrub I have ever used. The sugar seems to melt rather quickly on the skin, so you don’t have a lot of time to scrub off that dry skin…sigh.

The Rose Oil Ultra Moisturizing Hand Cream ($4.99) is by far the most luxurious hand cream I have tried. It’s hard to believe it’s so inexpensive! This smells just like the Rose Facial Oil, and absorbs easily into your hands and won’t leave them sticky or greasy. Love this, I hope they keep making it because I will definitely purchase again.

I hope you found my thoughts helpful today. If you have tried these or any other Trader Joe’s skin or body care items, let me know your thoughts!
